Flower Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham (CHBW)?
A. Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham (CHBW), formerly known as Sterling Medical Center (and before that Waltham Hospital), is a comprehensive ambulatory care center conveniently located at 9 Hope Avenue in Waltham, MA (zip code 02453) just 3 minutes off Rte 128/95. Parking is free. See directions.

Waltham Phase I (launch of a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary ambulatory clinic) was completed in June of 2005, and now includes over 30 subspecialty services offering outpatient care provided by Children's Hospital physicians.

July 2006 Update: Phase II is currently underway. Physical and Occupational Therapy and the Center for Communication Disorders began seeing patients in January of 2006. As of July 2006, two Day Surgery ORs have opened and the Department of Radiology has expanded to include MRI and Nuclear Medicine alongside plain film, ultrasound and fluoroscopy. CT will open in the fall.

Children's doctors will maintain their practices at the Longwood campus in Boston.

Q. Are the other Children's satellites (Lexington, Peabody, Weymouth, Norwood, Brockton, etc.) staying open?
A. Yes. It is anticipated that all current satellite operations will continue, with the same scope of services that is currently provided.

Q. Why did Children's Hospital open a satellite in Waltham?
A. Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham opened specifically to provide families with easy access to appointments with Children's doctors. We are offering the same high-quality care, closer to you and your community.

As you've probably discovered, the Children's Longwood campus in downtown Boston is overcrowded, parking is often challenging and it is sometimes difficult to obtain a timely appointment. Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham is easy to get to, offers free parking and will have a full complement of Children's outpatient services.

Q. Why is my child's physician moving to Waltham?
A. Actually, your child's physician is not moving to Waltham, but expanding his/her practice to provide care at Children's Hospital Boston at Waltham. He/she will have specific appointment hours at CHBW, but will maintain his/her practice on the Longwood campus. The philosophy underlying Children's expanding network is to serve families better by offering alternative locations out in the community, with convenient access, timely appointments, and free parking.
Q. If I see my physician in Waltham, will I still have the option of seeing that physician or another physician at the Longwood campus or at another location?
A. As long as the specialty is available at the specific network location, you will always have the option of using any of the Children's Hospital Network locations.
