Having a baby can be a beautiful experience, however, it can also be challenging for some expectant mothers. Together, Good Samaritan maternal fetal medicine specialists and Children's Hospital Boston neonatologists work closely with community obstetricians, pediatricians and pediatric specialists both before and after birth to ensure an optimal continuum of care. We work with families during every step of care--from diagnosis and counseling, through treatment and follow-up. We also serve as a resource for community physicians who continue to care for these families.

Complete, Uninterrupted Care
Our maternal fetal medicine specialists are superbly trained to care for women with high-risk pregnancies and to make their delivery as comfortable as possible. We provide care and consultation 24 hours a day, and share patient reports covering consultations, test results or proposed treatments with our patient's primary care physician or obstetrician. All care is coordinated by our high-risk obstetricians with other neonatal team members, including fetal surgeons, neonatologists, neonatal nurses and nurse practitioners.

Comprehensive Neonatal Services
If the situation arises, critically ill newborns receive specialized care from our team of neonatologists in our family-centered, technologically advanced Level III NICU. Our multidisciplinary team ensures collaboration with respiratory therapists, social workers, infant development specialists, audiologists and nutritionists to care for these babies who have complex, and often ongoing, medical and developmental needs. Our program strives to serve the needs of the entire family and to deliver hope and compassionate care--both before and after they leave the hospital. A special focus on providing parent education, emotional support and critical resources, helps families develop the confidence to care for their baby at home. To further help families, a social worker meets with every family and coordinates follow-up arrangements with appropriate agencies and providers, if needed.
