When three-year-old Melanie Muir had a fever and difficulty breathing, her mom brought her to Beverly Hospital's new emergency room. One "very scary drive" to the ER later, Melanie was immediately seen by Children's Hospital Boston pediatrician Dr. Karen Gruskin and treated for her condition.
Her vital signs didn't stabilize right away, so she was admitted to Beverly's Pediatric inpatient unit where she was treated by Children's pediatricians working in conjunction with her primary care physician. After two nights of treatment, with her mom, Theresa,
sleeping in the room with her, Melanie's condition improved and she was released.
