On April 15th, 2009, Children's Hospital Boston, the Boston Red Sox and Northeastern University celebrated the launch of a new pilot program to prevent childhood obesity called "Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures." The initiative aims to engage early child care providers and caregivers to promote healthy eating and increased physical activity among pre-school age children living in the Fenway, Mission Hill, South End and Lower Roxbury
communities of Boston. (Left to right) James Mandell, MD, CEO of Children's, Larry Lucchino, President and CEO of the Boston Red Sox, Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Joseph Aoun, President of Northeastern University and Sharon Scott-Chandler, VP of Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) gathered at the ABCD/Roxbury Head Start to kick off the initiative.

Children's Hospital Boston has been a leader and key partner in the Children's Mental Health Campaign, a state-wide coalition of more than 130 members, which worked to pass legislation to reform the mental health care system for children in Massachusetts. David R. DeMaso, MD, Children's psychiatrist-in-chief and Sandra Fenwick, Children's president and chief operating officer joined JudyAnn Bigby, MD, secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services and Governor Deval Patrick along with state legislators and advocates prior to a State House ceremony celebrating the passage of the bill last September.
