How to Refer a Patient
Refer a patient
Image Children's Hospital Boston is dedicated to working closely with other providers of pediatric care in order to offer the highest quality care for infants, childrens and adolescents.

Children's specialists are available to assist referring providers and their patients with an array of services. You may refer patients to the hospital, a particular service, or to an individual specialist for consultation, diagnosis or treatment.

To refer a patient to a specific specialist, please call their phone number listed in Find a Specialist.

Admit a patient
Schedule Admission (Elective)
If you need to schedule an admission to Children's and you do not have attending privileges, please:
  • page the Coordinator of Patient Placement (COPP) at 617-355-6369
  • or, call direct at 617-355-0000.
Unplanned/Emergency Admission
If a patient needs to be admitted to Children's, but Emergency Services at Children's are not needed:

  • or, call direct at 617-355-0000.
Transfer an unstable patient
If a patient needs to be transferred from another facility to Children's Hospital Boston, call 866-771-KIDS. An attending physician will mobilize the Critical Care Transport Team, discuss the availabilty of a bed and plan for interim stabilization.
Medication Passport
Children's has a new "Medical Passport" form for patients to bring with them during their visit to Children's. The passport is a form that referring health care providers can use to help list all of a patient's prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal remedies and supplements, including dose and frequency.
