The Children's Hospital BLS program is committed to supporting the CPR and First Aid efforts of the hospital and providing courses that are accessible to the community.

Heartsaver AED
This Heartsaver Course teaches the basic skills of Adult, Child and Infant CPR and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Students also learn about using barrier devices in CPR and giving first aid for choking. The course teaches how to recognize the signs of four major emergencies - heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest, and foreign-body airway obstruction.
    • Course offerings: 4th Wednesday of every month, 5-9pm
    • Cost: $68.00 (includes manual and pocket mask)
BLS for Healthcare Provider (recertification)
This course reviews the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an AED, and relief of a foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended to recertify participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings. Proof of AHA HCP certification within the past two years is required for class participation.
    • Course offerings: 3rd Tuesdayof every month, 5-9pm (except January -- Scheduled January 8, 2008)
    • Cost: $60.00 (includes manual)
Full Healthcare Provider classes are available upon request with a guaranteed minimum of 4 participants.
First Aid Courses
First Aid training provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel.
  • American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid Course - Adult
    • Course offerings: TBA
    • Time: 5-9pm
    • Cost: $45.00 (includes manual)
  • American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid Class - Pediatric
    • Course offerings: Offered monthly, please call for dates
    • Time: 5-9pm
    • Cost: $45.00 (includes manual)
BLS Instructor Course
The BLS Instructor Course is designed to prepare the AHA BLS Instructor to disseminate the science, skills, and philosophy of resuscitation programs to participants enrolled in AHA courses. BLS Instructor candidates must have current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

    • Cost: $195.00 (includes Instructor manual)
