Boston HAPPENS provides services to youth, 12-24 years old, who are HIV positive or at risk for the disease and other STDs. HAPPENS also offers free HIV counseling and testing for teens and young adults, ages 13 and older, and free STI and Viral Hepatitis testing for young people 13-24 (see STI/Viral Hepatitis Screening and Referral page for eligibility requirements).
We also offer free and confidential testing for HIV, STIs, and Viral Hepatitis to youth and young adults. For youth with recent known exposures, or for victims of sexual assault, we offer Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) treatment and follow-up services, which can greatly reduce the chance of HIV infection.
Bilingual services (English/Spanish) are available with bilingual providers, and interpreters for other languages are also available.
We have specialists in adolescent medicine, HIV care, nursing and mental health to answer your questions about HIV and provide you with a wide range of health care and support services, including:
Primary care services
HIV care and medications
Full checkups and lab tests
STD testing and treatment
Birth control and family/pre-conceptual planning
Access to HIV clinical trials
Cervical and anal pap smears
In addition to providing services at Boston Children's, we collaborate with other youth-serving programs throughout Boston, including:
Martha Eliot Health Center
Dimock Community Health Center's Boston Pediatric and Family AIDS Project
The Boston HAPPENS Program at Boston Children's Hospital relies on the kind donations of people and groups interested in supporting our work. With donors' help we can provide teens with free HIV counseling and testing, health care and support services.
