Our mission

Boston Children's Hospital's Office of Government Relations works with policy decision-makers at the local, state, and national levels to uphold the hospital’s mission of providing exceptional clinical care, research, and training for pediatric providers.

We have a special interest in, and commitment to, our community health programs. We work to develop sustainable and systemic solutions to child health concerns, such as asthma, obesity, child development and mental health.

We closely monitor issues related to public and private sector coverage, access to care and the health care regulatory environment. We also pay close attention to research and pediatric workforce concerns. We are proud of our many partnerships and collaborations with community organizations that advocate on behalf of children.

Children’s Advocacy Network (CAN)

The Children's Advocacy Network ("CAN") is a a grassroots network of child advocates interested in the health and well-being of children and families. CAN members contribute to the advocacy efforts of Boston Children’s Hospital by communicating with their state and federal lawmakers about child health issues. The Office of Government Relations offers CAN members regular advocacy training opportunities and issue-specific forums throughout the year.

The CAN is based at Boston Children's Hospital, but all who care about kids are welcome and encouraged to join. CAN members include Children's employees, volunteers, patients, families, and community members who care about children's health and want to make a difference. More than 1,700 people currently participate in the CAN by writing letters and emails, making calls, and sharing information with a variety of audiences with the goal of influencing policy.

Boston Children’s is so much more than a hospital—it’s a community of researchers, clinicians, administrators, support staff, innovators, teachers, patients and families, all working together to make the impossible possible. ”
