Sunlight was considered very important in the treatment of many diseases, especially rickets (a disease resulting from a lack of vitamin D or calcium). Here, several children receive carbon arc and ultraviolet light treatments. The risk of prolonged ultraviolet light exposure as a cause of skin cancer was not appreciated in that era.
