Alan Stern | Professional History

After completing his residency at Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. Stern went back to home to Needham to practice with his former pediatricians. In addition to helping run a busy suburban practice over the past 28 years, Dr. Stern has been actively involved with the Needham Board of Health, serves as the Needham School Physician, and is a regular instructor at Harvard Medical School. Besides his involvement in the community, Dr. Stern is the proud father of three young adults along with his wife. He is also one of the co-founders of the non-profit, The Boston BullPen Project.

Throughout my career, I have encouraged patients to take ownership of their healthcare. I have always viewed pediatric care as a partnership between the patient, provider and parents. I went into medicine to help guide patients with their decisions to make them healthier individuals. Physicians are teachers. It's also fun to be able to watch the patients grow into wonderful young adults!
