PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

As a pediatric psychologist whose specialty work has long been with deaf or hard of hearing children and their families, I've had the privilege of being Director of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at Children's for over two decades.Much of my clinical work involves conducting evaluations that contribute to differential diagnosis of concomitant conditions including multi-sensory impairments (auditory, visual, and vestibular systems), autism spectrum disorders, and neurological compromise.

My clinical research interests focus on neurobehavioral and psychosocial components in the development of children with both syndromic and non-syndromic conditions, seeking to optimize developmental outcomes for all children who are deaf. Formerly working in special education, I was introduced to developmental complexities, communication challenges, psychometric assessment, and systems of service delivery. Then, I found a passion for child psychology and specifically for children who are deaf or have reduced hearing levels.

The privilege of advising and consulting on matters of public policy, quality and breadth of community-based services, and legal issues affecting deaf and hard of hearing children permits me to apply most practically what I have learned from clinical and research endeavors. Promoting every opportunity for each child to realize individual competencies and working to assure equitable communication access have been key issues of devotion during my career.
