Philosophy of Care

There are two central pillars to my philosophy of care - to imagine oneself in the position of the patient and to equip the patient and family with the resources and education they need to help make informed decisions about their care.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

Asim A. Ahmed has a long-standing interest in re-emerging pathogens, mosquito-borne viruses and molecular mechanisms of viral entry. He has developed a clinical and scientific expertise in a domestic arbovirus called Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus (EEEV), which causes highly pathogenic, often fatal brain infection in humans and horses. His recent work has also included structural and functional analyses of emerging Paramyxoviruses. His most recent efforts are focused on the use of next generation sequencing (or "deep-sequencing") for pathogen detection to assist in the diagnosis of infectious diseases.
