Walk through the doors of Martha Eliot Health Center (MEHC) in Jamaica Plain, and you will experience more than just a health center — abuzz with children, teenagers and adults, it’s a community within the community.
Since 1973, Children’s Hospital Boston has owned and operated MEHC. The center provides a full spectrum of primary health care services to the communities of Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Dorchester and Roxbury. For many families in these neighborhoods, MEHC is their primary source of comprehensive medical care.
"Community health centers provide valuable services to families in Boston. Children's Hospital Boston helps make it possible for the center to provide care for children."

MEHC also supports programs and initiatives with a focus on prevention. For example, when doctors at MEHC began noticing high incidences of obesity in patients, the center formed two programs focused on fitness and nutrition:
I’m iN Charge (INC) helps young people who are overweight gain access to clinical care and other community resources, while We Got Next engages girls in counseling, educational workshops and programs to encourage physical activity.

Children’s Hospital Boston recognizes the enormous impact that community health centers have on keeping our community healthy. They provide medical, dental and mental health services to children and families throughout the city. In fact, the majority of Boston children get their primary care from community health centers.
In addition to owning and operating the Martha Eliot Health Center, Children’s provides $1 million annually to 11 Boston community health centers. Our funding of these centers helps to ensure that all Boston children have access to the care they need. We’re also working with health centers to address the major health issues affecting children, including asthma, injuries, mental health and obesity. |
