Dear Friends,
Keeping children healthy doesn’t always start in a doctor’s office or at the hospital. At Children’s Hospital Boston, our commitment to helping children stay healthy and safe goes far beyond our walls. To make Boston a better place to live, work and play, Children’s mission is to partner with and support community-based programs, provide the best clinical care to children, research new cures for diseases and train the next generation of pediatric caregivers.
We believe that when our community is healthy — with access to services, policies that promote good health, and programs that focus on prevention — then our children will be healthier too. Last year, Children’s invested more than $45 million towards our community mission — supporting and providing pediatric medical care and community health initiatives.
As a community hospital for children in Boston, we’re responsible for making sure that all children have access to physical and mental health care. We’re focusing our attention on four major health issues affecting children in our city: asthma, mental health, obesity and injury prevention. To do this, we partner with and support the work of health centers, schools and community groups, and listen to community leaders and families to find out the best ways to bring services to children.
In the pages that follow, we share with you some of many ways that Children’s is working to achieve our vision of “Healthy Children. Healthy Communities.”
