The Cardiology Consultation Service at Children's Hospital Boston performs approximately 1,800 consults annually. Consults are requested from the neonatal intensive care units and well-infant nurseries at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Beth Israel/Deaconess Hospital, as well as the neonatal intensive care unit at Children's (7 North).
Consults are also requested from the emergency room, various in-patient services, post anesthesia care unit, and pre-operative clinic at Children's.
Consults are seen on the day of the request. The service is staffed by an attending cardiologist and second, third or fourth year cardiology fellows. Appropriate cardiac testing (electrocardiography, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, exercise tolerance test, Holter monitor) is performed by the appropriate Cardiovascular Program divisions.
