Flower Time of Transplant (Surgery)
How are we notified when a heart is available?
You will be notified by phone or pager that an organ is available. You will be told to come to the hospital immediately so your child can be prepared for the transplant. This call can occur at any time, so you should always be prepared to go to the hospital. Your child will be instructed not to eat or drink anything following the call.
What happens when we arrive at the hospital?
Once you arrive at the hospital, your child will have some more final tests and blood work done to confirm the match of the organ.

If all is confirmed OK, then your child will go to the operating room. The transplant surgery will require several hours. During the surgery, a member of the transplant team will keep you informed on the progress of the transplant surgery.
