In the 1970s, Dr. Laurence Sloss brought together Brigham and Women?s Hospital and Children?s Hospital Boston to begin the country?s first adult congenital heart center. By the mid-to-late 1980s, under the guidance of doctors James E. Lock and Aldo Castenada, the program had grown into a multi-disciplinary, multi-care center for patients with ACHD. In 1992, doctors from both institutions joined to form the Boston Adult Congenital Heart (BACH) and Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT) Service. Today, the BACH and PHT service assists in the care and education of thousands of ACHD?ers from around the world.
