Michael Landzberg, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology, and is the founder and director of the Boston Adult Congenital Heart (BACH) and Pulmonary Hypertension Service. His areas of particular clinical and research expertise include novel catheter-based diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, pulmonary hypertensive disorders, and coronary arterial issues in congenital heart disease. Dr. Landzberg is internationally recognized as a leader in the care of adults with congenital heart disease and sits on national and international ACHD task forces and committees.

Thomas Johnson, MD, is a board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Johnson holds clinical appointments with the BACH services outpatient division and both clinical and academic appointments with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Medical School, allowing him to serve as a connection for many patients in the Northern New England area.

Paul Khairy, MD, PhD, graduated from the BACH program in 2004 and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Adult Cardiology, and Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Khairy leads the BACH ARCHES and Clinical Research program and has particular expertise in epidemiology and statistics. In addition to his role with the BACH Service, he also holds a Canada Research Chair in Electrophysiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease at the Montreal Heart Institute.

Mary Mullen, MD, PhD, graduated from the BACH program in 1999 and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Mullen shares clinical time between the BACH service and the Cardiac Intensive Care Service. Dr. Mullen's clinical and research interests include the care of individuals of all ages with pulmonary hypertensive disorders and the development and evaluation of new pharmacological therapies for such.

Michael Singh, MD, a 2004 graduate from the BACH program, and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Adult Cardiology. In addition to caring for adults with congenital heart disease, he also sees adults with aortic diseases, including Marfan syndrome and other connective tissue disorders. His research interests include database direction and the development of outcomes assessment tools. Dr. Singh is the founding adult director of the New England regional Marfan care group.

Laurence Sloss, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology. Dr. Sloss has been caring for adults with congenital heart disease for over thirty years and is a founding innovator, establishing the framework for the eventual creation of the BACH service. Dr. Sloss shares time between the BACH service and his clinical office practice. In addition to being an expert in hands-on-cardiovascular diagnostics, he is a world-class clinical cardiologist and a mentor to the rest of the BACH staff.

Anne Marie Valente, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Adult Cardiology, and Pediatric Cardiology. She has expertise in the use of cardiac magnetic resonance imagine (MRI) as a tool in the diagnosis management of adults with congenital heart disease. In addition, she is a founding member of the Alliance for Adult Research in Congenital Cardiology (AARCC), a group of investigators with a mission of fostering collaborative relationships between institutions in order to further and sustain ACHD research efforts.

Fred Wu, MD, a 2007 graduate from the BACH program, is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Adult Cardiology. Dr. Wu's clinical and research interests include multi-organ dysfunction in adults with congenital heart disease, the physician-patient relationship, and the use of health information technology and web-accessible resources to improve patient care and long-term outcomes.

Pedro del Nido, MD, is board certified in Cardiac Surgery and serves as the chief of Cardiac Surgery at Children's Hospital. He has expertise in the surgical management of complex congenital heart disease, valvular surgery, minimally-invasive and robotic surgery, arrhythmia surgery, and heart muscle efficiency and transplantation. Dr. del Nido is recognized as an international leader in the surgical management of congenital heart disease and serves on several national and international clinical and research committees and councils.

Emile Bacha, M.D., is board certified in Cardiac Surgery and joined the staff of Children's Hospital in 2005 from the University of Chicago Children's Hospital, where he had served as director of Congenital and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Bacha specializes in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery and hybrid cardiac procedures. He is also interested in human factors and safety in pediatric cardiac surgery.

Francis Fynn-Thompson, M.D., is board certified in Cardiac Surgery and serves on the staff of Children's Hospital. In addition to surgical management of adults with congenital heart disease, Dr. Flynn-Thomson's clinical expertise includes minimally invasive surgery, arrhythmia surgery, ventricular assist devices and transplantation. His research activities are focused on clinical and translational projects, primarily with regard to minimally invasive techniques and arrhythmias.

John Mayer, M.D., is board certified in Cardiac Surgery and is a senior surgeon in Cardiac Surgery at Children's Hospital. Dr. Mayer's clinical interests include the surgical management of complex congenital heart disease, tissue engineering surgery, and heart muscle efficiency and transplantation. Dr. Mayer also serves on several national and international clinical and research committees and councils.

Frank Pigula, MD, is board certified in Cardiac Surgery and serves as a clinical director of Cardiac Surgery at Children's Hospital. Dr. Pigula's clinical and research interests include transplantation, cardiopulmonary bypass and ECMO, and fetal cardiac interventions.

Prem Shekar, MD, is board certified in Cardiac Surgery, and serves on staff at Brigham and Women's Hospital. In addition to the surgical management of adults with congenital heart disease, Dr. Shekar's clinical interests include the surgical management of aortic root disease in connective tissue disorders, complex valvular surgeries, surgical management of acute and chronic pulmonary thromboembolic disease, arrhythmia surgery, and ventricular assist devices and transplantation.

Dorothy (Disty) Pearson, PA-C, is a senior clinician within the BACH program, with expertise in the care of patients with complex congenital heart disease. In addition to being a leaser in Massachusetts physician assistant community, Ms. Pearson serves on national and international ACHD clinical care and research committees and councils, and is a founding medical board member of the Adult Congenital Heart Association.

Susan Fernandes, PA-C, MPH, is a founding member of the BACH program. Her expertise in epidemiology and statistics has made her an instrumental part of our efforts to develop and expand the data management and research capabilities of BACH's research arm. Ms. Fernandes shares clinical responsibilities between her adult congenital heart disease clinic in Providence, RI and the Transition Clinic Children's Hospital.

Caitlyn O'Brien-Joyce, PA-C, is a senior clinician within the BACH group who joined the Children's Hospital staff upon her graduation from Northeastern University's physician assistant program. Ms. Joyce has well-recognized expertise in the care of patients with complex congenital heart disease. Her clinical focus lies in cardiovascular diagnostics and care, as well as patient and family education.

William M. Kerr, RN, BSN, is a second-career nurse and a graduate of the Curry College School of Nursing. Prior to joining BACH, Mr. Kerr spent two years caring for pediatric patients on the Boston Medical Center's Pediatric Medical/Surgical Service. He is currently dedicated to the process improvements and resolution of patient issues. Mr. Kerr's combination of enthusiasm, compassion, life experiences and clinical acumen has made him a strong and effective advocate for our patients.

Erin Hirbour and Laurel Gauthier are the administrative assistants for the BACH service and are an indispensable part of the group. For many, Ms. Hirbour and Ms. Gauthier are the face and voice of the BACH service and both facilitate and maintain the constant stream of communication between the BACH staff, other departments within Children's Hospital, our referring providers, and our patients.
