Flower Inpatient Services
Our inpatient service encompasses the greater Longwood Medical Area and treats, consults, and admits individuals to three separate institutions:

  • Children's Hospital Boston
  • Brigham and Women's Hospital
  • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

The decision regarding which institution to visit for the primary site of inpatient care is reevaluated on a regular basis depending on the particular areas of expertise that are required to best evaluate, diagnose, and treat each patient. The inpatient team is available 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week and works in conjunction with specialists and the medical house staff at each hospital to ensure complete and comprehensive care.

    Areas of expertise include:

  • Aggressive heart failure management.
  • Ongoing care in the cardiac intensive care units.
  • Post-operative care.
  • Cardiac catheterization and innovative interventional cardiology.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension.
  • Peri- and postpartum management in conjunction with high risk obstetricians.

The team collaborates directly with specialists?such as electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, oncologists, gastroenterologists, hematologists, and nephrologists?to coordinate multiple facets of patient care both in direct relationship to congenital heart disease and in multiple aspects of general medical care that may carry slightly higher morbidity and complexity.

In addition to our direct medical and patient care services, the BACH team provides much-needed teaching and education regarding the various congenital heart defects, interventions, and management to interns, residents, and fellows.
