  • Jane W. Newburger, MD, MPH, was the first pediatric cardiologist to receive the Distinguished Scientist Award (Clinical Domain) from the ACC.

  • Steven Colan, MD, Associate Chief of Cardiology, was the recipient of the Founder's Award given by the Pediatric Council of the American Society of Echocardiography.

  • Bernhard Kuhn, MD, won first place in the American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Award in Basic Science.

  • Sarah de Ferranti, MD, MPH, received the Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) for her application, Nutritional Treatment of Overweight Adolescents with Cardiovascular Risk Factors: a Pilot Study, co- mentors David S. Ludwig, MD, PhD, and Jane W. Newburger, MD, MPH. She was also awarded the CHB Faculty Development Award for her study Nutritional Treatment of Overweight Adolescents with Metabolic Risk Factors: a Pilot Study. This award has also bestowed upon her the title of Eleanor and Myles Shore Scholar.

  • Oscar Benavidez, MD, MPH, received the Office of Faculty Development Faculty Career Development Award for his work on minorities.

  • Seda E. Tierney, MD, received an American Heart Association Scientist Development Award for her grant on Vascular Health in Kawasaki Disease. Co-Investigators are Jane W. Newburger, MD, MPH, Steven D. Colan, MD, and Kimberlee Gauvreau, ScD.

  • John M. Costello, MD, also received an American Heart Association Scientist Development Award for his grant on Empiric nesiritide, milrinone or placebo infusion following Fontan surgery: a randomized double-blind-clinical trial. Co-investigators include David L. Wessel, MD, Peter C. Laussen, MD, Jane W. Newburger, MD, MPH, John E. Mayer, MD, Frank McGowan, MD, and Kimberlee Gauvreau, ScD.

  • David W. Brown, MD, received the Morgan-Zinsser Academy Fellowship in Medical Education for Academic Year 2007-08.

  • Andew J. Powell, MD,received the Teaching Award from the 2006-2007 Cardiology fellows.

  • John Mayer, MD became the first recipient of the Kaplan Chair in Cardiovascular Studies in the Cardiovascular Program, and Kathy Jenkins, MD, MPH became the first recipient of the Kobren Family Chair for Patient Safety and Quality.
