Flower Caroline's Story: "Local" Angels to the rescue!
A Guiding Light
Image At birth, Caroline was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect (ASD) and two ventricular septal defects (VSD). Her parents brought her to Children's Hospital Boston after meeting Dr. Kathy Jenkins at an American Heart Association meeting. Caroline's parents praised Dr. Jenkins for her expertise, compassion, and thoughtful explanations of their daughter's condition. "Dr. Jenkins is a superb expert, but she also communicates with us on our level and with sincerity," they said
Local 7 Angels
Image When Lou Carriero, a friend and co-worker of Caroline's mom, learned of her diagnosis, he was able to provide a parking spot for her visits to the hospital. Lou worked on the construction site adjacent to the hospital, and with help from Sean Kneeley and the rest of the Local 7 Iron Workers, he organized a fundraiser to benefit the Children's Hospital Boston Cardiac Fund. Caroline was given the special honor from Local 7 of having her name painted on a steel beam that was going up on the construction site.
A New Cardiology Clinic
Recently, Caroline and her family came back to the Cardiology Clinic at Children's to hand-deliver the check from their dedicated fund-raising efforts. The funds have been used to buy new toys for the Cardiology Clinic as requested by Caroline and her family. Her parents vow to continue their fundraising efforts to help families whose children are more acutely affected by congenital heart disorders. As for Caroline, her parents say, "We are very lucky that by the grace of God and her care at Children's that Caroline is doing just fine."
