Flower Why Choose Us
The Cardiovascular Program is one of the reasons Children's Hospital Boston is known for saving children's lives. Children's is a world leader in pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, and is responsible for dramatically improving the survival rate for children with heart defects.
Cardiology Team
Since 1938, when Robert Gross, MD, performed the first-ever repair of a congenital heart defect in a child, Children's cardiovascular surgeons and cardiologists have been solving heart problems previously believed too complicated to correct.

At the heart of Children's Hospital Boston's Cardiovascular Program:

  • Some of the lowest mortality rates in the world, yet the program cares for some of the most complex cardiac surgery patients.
  • The world's largest pediatric interventional cardiac catheterization program, which pioneered minimally invasive solutions for problems that previously required open-heart surgery with heart-lung bypass.
  • One of the nation's largest pediatric heart transplant programs, with extraordinary survival rates.
  • The world's largest pediatric arrhythmia service, which employs innovative solutions such as catheter ablation and an implantable defibrillator to correct arrhythmias.
  • A dedicated cardiac intensive care unit with specially trained cardiac nurses.
  • One of the nation's premier programs for adults with congenital heart conditions.
  • A pioneer of fetal cardiac surgeries.
