Being told that you or your child has a heart defect can be frightening and overwhelming. But you can rest assured that, at Children's Hospital Boston, you are in good hands.

Since 1938, when Robert Gross, MD, performed the world's first successful surgical repair of a congenital heart defect, Children's has been a leader in pediatric cardiac care.

This tradition of excellence attracts bright, innovative and talented clinicians who are dedicated to making sure you and your child receive the best care possible.

Experience
The Cardiovascular Program at Children's is the largest pediatric heart program in the United States. Our staff includes more than 80 pediatric cardiac specialists who provide care for thousands of children and adults with congenital and acquired heart defects each year, from simple to complex cases. We have experience treating rare heart problems with results that are among the best in the world.

Innovative care
Coming to Children's means you and/or your child will benefit from some of the newest and most advanced tools, techniques and treatments. Our program's culture is one of innovation and enthusiasm for tackling complex cases.

Comprehensive services
We provide a full range of care, from diagnostic assessment to interventional therapy using cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery. Our center also offers many services to support your family's needs, whether it's a place to sleep, support groups or social services.

Patient's Story

Casey Bolton talks about her Children's experience with her son, Parker, who was born with HLHS, hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
The future of heart valve therapy
The valve reconstruction program at Children's is leading new advances in reconstructing valves in cases that previously required replacement. Reconstruction is preferable as it limits the number of times a child has to return for new valve replacement and, as it relies on the child's own native tissue, is more likely to be accepted by the body.
