Developed by Naomi Fried, PhD, the Innovation Lifecycle is a useful framework for thinking about how innovation occurs within a service company. It does not reflect the commercialization path for a device or product. A product company would characterize its product lifecycle similarly but with different steps. The lifecycle is comprised of 6 steps plus a gap--the operationalization or o-gap. The Innovation Lifecycle is a powerful paradigm for planning and organizing innovation in a healthcare organization.
