Cochlear Implant Program

Expert Staff

The Cochlear Implant Team staff includes:

  • 5 surgeons
  • 4 audiologists
  • 2 administrative coordinators
  • 2 speech-language pathologists
  • 3 psychologists
  • 1 occupational therapist

A developmental pediatrician, ophthalmologist, neurologist, geneticist, and other professionals participate in the team evaluation when appropriate.

 

Services

Services provided by our multidisciplinary Cochlear Implant Team include:

  • Comprehensive information about all educational and communication options available for the child
  • Assessment of the child's language skills and potential to benefit from a cochlear implant
  • Mapping services, ongoing care, professional support, and education to families following cochlear implant surgery
  • Comprehensive evaluation by an audiologist, speech and language pathologist, psychologist, and otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor)
  • Cochlear implant surgery

 

The Cochlear Implant Program considers implantation of cochlear devices for children with:

  • Severe or profound sensorineural hearing loss in both ears
  • Auditory dys-synchrony (auditory neuropathy)
