Moving children towards healthier lifestyle habits and choices,
Great Moves! is a medically supervised, family-based, six-month weight management program for children 6 to 18 years old and their families.

The program is a collaboration between physicians at Children's Hospital Boston and Pediatric Weight Management Centers.

Children's endocrinologist Erinn Rhodes, MD, MPH is chief medical officer of Great Moves!.

The Great Moves! program focuses on weight management through:

  • physical activity
  • nutrition
  • behavioral support
  • medical supervision
  • team effort

Great Moves! is based on research outcomes and experience of the Optimal Weight for Life (OWL) program at Children's developed by David Ludwig, MD, PhD.

At least one parent or guardian must participate in the program with their child or children. Support is provided through individual and group counseling sessions for children and parents.

Is the Great Moves! program appropriate for my child?

  • Your child has a body mass index (BMI) at or above the 85th percentile for their age and sex. View a BMI calculator here.
  • Both you and your child are ready and willing to actively participate in the program.
