Immunocompromised Host Infectious Disease Services (ICH)
The Immunocompromised Host Service (ICH) is a specialized consultative service focusing on the special infection needs of solid organ and bone marrow transplant candidates and recipients (immunocompromised patients). As an integral part of the Children's Hospital, Boston Pediatric Transplant Service, the ICH physician and nurse practitioner specialists offer the following services to CHB patients before and after transplant.
Pre-transplant Infectious Disease Evaluation:
Patients receive a comprehensive evaluation to advise on:
  • Management of chronic infections
  • Important protective immunizations, especially in children who need an accelerated or customized immunization schedule
  • Infectious disease screening and to provide counseling on infectious disease prevention
  • Provides counseling on infectious disease prevention
Post Transplant Evaluation of inpatients or outpatients:
  • To prevent, diagnose and treat infectious complications
  • To advise on immunizations and infectious disease prevention

Sandra K. Burchett, MD, MSc
Pediatric Transplant Center Infectious Disease Physician

Dr. Burchett completed her residency at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas and MSc at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville, Arkansas. She completed her fellowship at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Burchett currently serves as the Clinical Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases.

Lynne Lewis, RN, MS, CPNP
Pediatric Transplant Center Infectious Disease Nurse Practioner

Lynne received her Master of Science degree as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist as well as completed the Post Master Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program at the SUNY Health Science Center College of Nursing in Syracuse, New York. Lynne serves as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for both immunocompetent and immunocompromised (HIV/AIDS/transplant recipients) patients in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital Boston.
