The Optometry Department at the Martha Eliot Health Center provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages. The optometrist and staff perform eye examine, treat general eye problems, and prescribe glasses and contact lenses. Services include:
Routine Pediatric and Adolescent Eye Care
- Infants under 3 years of age are examined for crossed eyes and poor vision.
- Children between the ages of 3 and 15 are encouraged to have annual check-ups to monitor vision, and if necessary, to correct any problems. Without adequate eye care, children in this age group may have difficulty in school.
Routine Adult Eye Care
- Regular eye exams later in life are important in maintaining good vision.
- The optometrist will check for glaucoma and cataracts which occur more frequently in persons over 35 and require special treatment.
- Diabetic patients should have an eye exam every year to check for any complications.
Care of Eye Injury and Disease
- The team can treat minor lacerations and trauma.
- Young patients with severe injury or disease are referred to specialists at Children's Hospital Boston.
Optical Services
- We offer a wide selection of new frames on-site, and patients can order glasses to be made.
- Contact lens services are also available.
