Early Intervention
The Early Intervention (EI) Program at the Martha Eliot Health Center provides family centered services to support the developmental progress of eligible children. Depending on the child's needs, the EI team may include a developmental specialist, social worker, physical therapist, speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist or other specialty provider.

Who is eligible?
Any child up to three years of age if he/she:

  • Is diagnosed with a physical, emotional, or cognitive condition that may result in developmental delay.
  • Is at risk for developmental delay due to various biological and/or environmental factors.

Services Provided:

  • Developmental screening and evaluation
  • Home visits and therapies
  • Play groups

Services are typically provided in the child's home or child care program. Serving children in their natural environment helps them to participate more easily in their everyday activities and with their peers.

Community Play Groups:
Community play groups are for available for newborns to children three years of age. They are open to the entire community and offer toddlers and their care givers:

  • Age appropriate activities
  • A fun learning environment
  • Well trained & caring staff
  • Healthy snacks
  • Outdoor time
  • Circle time/singing

If you are interesting in joining the community play group, please contact our group coordinator Jacqui Gross at

Children's Community Early Intervention Program is pleased to offer a Saturday parent/toddler playgroup once a month when the health center is open. The playgroups, which are 90 minutes, are open to all Early Intervention families as well as community members. Each Saturday, the playgroup has a different area of focus to provide a fun, educational setting to parents and children. Some of the groups we have offered include a music-themed group, where children made musical instruments and had a sing-along with a guest guitar player, and a movement-themed group, where we explored dance and play with parachutes. Other groups have offered psychoeducational mini-workshops to parents, including "Learning Through Play" as well as "Transitioning Your Child to the Public School System." All playgroups involve parent/child art activities, such as painting, drawing, or using clay, as well as story time and circle time with songs. Our Saturday playgroups have been a great success, particularly for families that work full-time during the week and are looking for an opportunity to learn and grow with their child. For further inquiries, please contact Leah Koretz, Developmental Specialist, at 617-971-2484.
