Flower Peer Leadership
The Peer Leadership Group at the Martha Eliot Health Center is a youth-led program that develops and maintains a strong team of peer leaders. Our peer leaders identify important issues affecting their community and work on achieving social justice and eliminating health disparities.

Our vision

Our peer leaders' vision is to create healthier communities. These communities include the areas surrounding the Martha Eliot Health Center.

Our selected peer leaders, both as a team and as an individual, will help create growth and change within the community. They will identify important issues, organize their ideas and find solutions. They will serve as agents of social change and motivate the community to action.

Skills developed

Our peer leaders will develop important skills, including:

  • strong leadership abilities
  • self-awareness
  • social and emotional competence and confidence
  • conflict resolution
  • problem-solving abilities
While developing these skills, our peer leaders will create a sense of community and work for social change.

Responsibilities

Our peer leaders have a variety of responsibilities:

  • They will gain the skills necessary to both identify and use the resources in their community.

  • They will use their knowledge to reach out and teach others, while acting as liaisons to appropriate health care services at the Martha Eliot Health Center.

  • They will advocate for themselves and others by being strong voices in the community.

  • They will provide valuable input to the Martha Eliot Community Advisory Board.

  • They will conduct frequent evaluations and assessments to strengthen the program.
By September 2007, our program will move to a five-days-a-week program. We will establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other area providers and youth organizations.
