MEHC Summer Safety Fair a Success
Dozens of local families recently attended Children's Martha Eliot Health Center's annual Summer Safety Fair. The main goal of the fair was to inform families on how to keep children safe and healthy. Boston police, fire, and ambulance personnel provided home safety tips around the house, including how and when to call 911, as well as window and car seat safety. In addition, families received information related to sun, water and bike riding safety. MEHC staff distributed 180 free bicycles, which children wore during a bike rodeo in the health center's parking lot. Face painting and raffle prizes were favorite activities for children.
Participating MEHC programs included WIC, Early Intervention, Asthma and "I'm In Charge" (obesity program for children), focused on educating children and their parents about health and nutrition.
The organizers for the event included Izabela Gasior and Karissa Nickerson an MEHC student intern. The following organizations participated: Boston building materials co-op, Boston public Health Commission, Bikes Not Bombs, Boston Police Department, Boston Fire Department, Boston Ambulance Service, and Gin C. production
