Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Program
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic condition in which the muscles throughout the body are weakened because the cells in the spinal cord and motor nerves do not work properly. Approximately 10-16 out of every 100,000 children are born with this condition.

The Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Clinic is held once monthly and provides the most comprehensive team of doctors and specialists coming together during one visit to focus on all the needs of our SMA patients. At Children's Hospital Boston we have made clinical and research initiatives for SMA a priority and work each day to improve the care we provide to these special patients and their families.
