Simulator Program
Welcome
Image The Children's Hospital Boston Simulator Program is the first hospital-based simulator at a teaching hospital in New England. The simulation suite is a dual-purpose simulation laboratory and procedure room with an adjacent control room and conference room located within a state-of-the-art Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

The Simulator Programs Directors represent both physician and nursing leadership. Our Associate Director is an intensivist physician as well as a Scholar of the Harvard Macy Program. Our Coordinator holds a Masters in Education. The Simulator Program operates as a post-graduate university for trainees from multiple disciplines and departments. The Simulator Program offers a myriad of simulation-enhanced solutions to educational challenges that fall within four broad categories:

  • crisis resource management
  • competency-based training
  • professional staff development
  • institutional policy implementation
Mission
The Children's Hospital Boston Simulator Program will form an education center to advance and support medical education for all health care providers at Children's Hospital Boston (CHB). Through the development and adaptation of innovative teaching strategies, the program will teach to a wide array of practitioners via experiential learning. The Program will seek to make substantial contributions to global pediatric education and foster collaborative research by assisting in the development of international simulation centers
Our Core Objectives
  • To recruit, train and retain CHB staff via the development of a simulation-based post graduate university
  • To standardize and disseminate high quality crisis resource management training
  • To make substantial contributions to global pediatric education and foster collaborative research by assisting in the development of international simulation centers
  • To develop new curricular paradigms targeting the training of relational and communication skills
  • To adapt business models to the health care setting to promote rapid cycle improvement within the institution.
Collaboration
All facilitators for the Children's Hospital Boston Simulator Program attend instructor courses at the Center for Medical Simulation in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
