Clinical Services (Kidney Transplant Program):
Why Choose Us?
We are the only program in New England that is entirely focused on pediatric patients. Children and adolescents are our priority, as illustrated in our team's instrumental role in changing the way pediatric patients were listed on the organ waiting list. Thanks to our intervention, patients 18 years old and younger now receive priority listing.
Children's offers the only dedicated pediatric dialysis unit in New England. This means we offer the highest possible quality care for young patients requiring dialysis, and we are able to perform transplants under optimal conditions.
We believe in educating the next generation of physicians. Our experts contributed to and edited the academic text on pediatric transplantation, and they oversee a fellowship program which provides hands-on experience for up-and-coming pediatric kidney transplant specialists.
Every member of our team, from physicians to nurses to child life specialists, is focused on improving the practice of kidney transplantation through research. This includes leadership in formal research groups like the Cooperative Clinical Trials in Pediatric Transplantation (CCTPC), which will lead to an improved outlook for future kidney transplant recipients.
We provide specialized support services for patients of all ages throughout all stages of treatment. Examples include Back to School Visits, which help patients readjust to life in the classroom, and, for older patients, special transition to adulthood programs.
