Once the cord is untethered, any nerve damage should stop progressing and pain will usually subside. However, nerve damage done before the surgery will not be repaired. Simple cases probably will not require any additional surgery. Lipomas, in which the fatty tumor is tightly interwoven with nerve fibers, may not be completely removed even after several surgeries.
If urinary or movement problems persist after surgery, your surgeon may recommend that you see other specialists.
