Flower Functional Mobility Clinic
The Functional Mobility Clinic consists of an interdisciplinary team that assesses the equipment needs related to mobility (power, manual, positioning) of patients with neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and cardiopulmonary disorders.

Our team has extensive experience working with small children - even children as young as 13 months old.

Who can attend the clinic?
Criteria for participation include:

  • Patients who may have the potential for power mobility and require the services of physical therapy and occupational therapy

  • Patients who have complex positioning needs

We also welcome the participation of local physical, occupational and speech therapists, and other team members.
What services are provided?
The clinic enhances the functional capabilities of severely disabled individuals through:

  • A comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment of their seating and mobility needs

  • Recommendations for appropriate equipment

  • Locating funding sources for equipment and arranging for delivery

  • Comprehensive training program to the patient, family, and caregiver regarding the recommended equipment, if needed (Example, how to operate a power wheelchair)

  • Follow-up appointments for equipment, re-evaluation, and changes

When does the clinic meet?
The clinic is held once a month, typically the third Tuesday of the month.
How can I make an appointment to visit the clinic?
Patients must be referred to the clinic. Referrals can be initiated by patients, families, primary care providers, therapists, or specialists. However, a written doctor prescription is needed.

Please call 617-355-7212 for more information.
