Clinical Services:
Pathology
Pathology is the study of the nature of disease, including its causes, development, and consequences. Since its inception more than 20 years ago, the Department of Pathology at Children's Hospital Boston has grown to become the largest service of its kind in the world. The department maintains its critical role by supporting many clinical activities in the hospital.

Our pediatric and subspecialty pathologists interpret thousands of biopsies each year and perform a variety of other procedures in order to provide surgeons and other medical specialists with crucial information.

Our services
The services of the Department of Pathology are available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. The vast majority of the work is accomplished between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday. However, a staff pathologist and resident are on-call continuously for urgent requests and intraoperative diagnoses. A technician is also available on Saturdays to handle urgent surgical and cytological specimen processing. Interpretation requests and emergency technical staffing is available on Sundays.

He joined the staff of Children's Hospital Boston in 2001, and led Pathology through a period of unmatched growth in its clinical services. Dr. Collins was also deeply committed to improving the Pathology Department's Research Division.
