Flower Current Child Neurology Residents
Erika Fullwood Augustine, MD
Image Training: Harvard College, BA in Anthropology; University of Rochester, MD; Children's Hospital Boston, Pediatrics residency

Interests: I am currently in the process of narrowing down a specific area of interest (there are many options), and considering fellowship training after residency. In my spare time, I enjoy time outdoors with my dog, reading, cooking, and looking for new places to dine in Boston. I have recently started running as well; lofty goals may eventually include running the Boston Marathon.

The training at Children's Hospital is most notable for our clinical exposure to the full breadth of neurology in multiple settings, including primary child neurology inpatient services. Our first hand education from patients is supplemented by a thorough didactic curriculum as well as individualized teaching from attendings at the bedside. One of the highlights of the program, however, is the great camaraderie among the residents and fellows.

Jonathan Lipton, MD, PhD.
Image Training: Brown University, BA in Classics; Albert Einstein School of Medicine MD/PhD; Children's Hospital at Montefiore Pediatric Residency

Interests: My prior research was on genetics of sex drive in C. elegans and activity-dependence in mammalian brain. My current clinical research is on epidemiology of stroke in children and I am also doing basic research on the mechanisms of plasticity of response to ischemic injury. Prior to starting medical school I studied piano, composition, and conducting in New York and performed professionally. The important stuff now are my son, my wife, music, art, and yoga.

My favorite feature of this residency program is without doubt the people in the program. My fellow residents are colleagues, advisors, and friends.

Jennifer (Jeannie) Markowitz, M.D.
Image Training: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, S.B. Major in Brain and Cognitive Science, Minors in Biology and Music; University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, MD; NIH Clinical Research Training Program Fellow - research on Spinal Muscular Atrophy in the Neurogenetics Branch.

Interests: After residency I will be doing a fellowship in Neuromuscular Disease at the Brigham and Women's and Mass General Hospitals. Outside of work, I love to read, play the cello, knit, paint, and tell jokes.

I love being at Children's because of the opportunity to work with so many brilliant, yet very accessible, clinicians. I am constantly learning not just from the attendings, but from the other residents in our program.

Simone Ardern-Holmes, MD
Image Training: University of Auckland, BA; University of Auckland/Univ of South Wales School of Medicine, MD; Sydney Children's Hospital, Starship Children's Hospital, Auckland, St. George Hospital

Interests: I am enjoying the opportunity to learn neurology at last, including consolidating fundamental knowledge through assessing and treating adult patients in rotations to other departments affiliated with our program. I look forward to focusing more on pediatric topics over time. At this stage my interests in pediatric neurology are broad and formative, and with further clinical experience I hope to develop research interests to compliment clinical practice.

I believe the training provided through our program at Children's Hospital rivals the best in the world, including both clinical encounters and academic support. Both my fellow residents and our attending neurologists share a passion for neurology which provides a rich environment for learning and excellence in clinical care. We look forward to welcoming other residents to the program in coming years. Good luck in your own professional journey-perhaps we will see you here soon!

Eugenia Ho, M.D.
Image Training:University of Pennsylvania , BA in Molecular Biology; Indiana University School of Medicine, MD; Loma Linda University Children's Hospital Pediatrics Residency Program.

Interests: I haven't yet decided what I'm going to do in the future because there are so many areas of child neurology that interest me. My outside interests include cello, art history, knitting, and dining/cooking.

One of the main reasons I came to Children's was that I wanted to be surrounded by people who had a wide variety academic interests, educational backgrounds, and perspectives. I wanted to become a well-rounded and knowledgeable general neurologist before pursuing a specialty pathway.

Jurriaan Peters, MD
Image Training: Faculty of Medicine, Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, MD; Haga Teaching Hospital, The Hague, The Netherlands, Adult Neurology Residency; Children's Hospital Boston, Epilepsy Fellowship.

Interests: I am intrigued by epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology, and my research will continue to have its focus on practical, clinical applications of EEG signal processing techniques. My interests outside of work include field hockey, music and reading, and recently got married during my third month of neurology residency.

The positive atmosphere in Children's Hospital Boston is truly unique - the bar is raised high to deliver superior care. The Neurology attendings are accessible and, quite importantly, the resident's considerations are taken seriously. This enables us to have both independence and support during training. Interest and excitement are genuine in this program and inspired me to train here.

Ariane Soldatos, MD
Image Training: Je viens de Montreal. I completed medical school at McGill University and my pediatrics residency at McMaster University. I am board certified in pediatrics in both Canada and the United States. I recently completed a diploma in tropical medicine in England at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. My medical interest lies in international health and the interface between neurology and infectious diseases. Interests: My medical interest lies in international health and the interface between neurology and infectious diseases. Outside of medicine, I enjoy music, art, traveling, foreign films.

I am really enjoying the training program at CHB because of the multitude of great mentors we get to work with daily and the really fun group of residents I have joined.

Peter Tsai, MD, PhD
Image Training: Harvard University, AB in Biochemical Sciences; MD, UCLA School of Medicine; PhD, Molecular Biology Institute at UCLA; Children's Hospital Boston, Pediatrics Residency. Interests: Previous research interests revolved around developmental neurogenesis - including my PhD work evaluating Erythropoietin Receptor's role in neurogenesis and in neuroprotection. Outside of neurology, I have lots of interests that revolve mostly around family and food. I have a lovely wife and infant daughter, with whom I try to spend any extra time. I love food - especially eating it ... and thus, I love to cook (I have to support my eating habit after all). When I'm not found chomping away, I enjoy hiking, paddling, playing volleyball/ultimate ... anything really to be outside.

That being said, I am still undecided regarding future research/clinical areas. However, the Neurology Department at Children's Hospital Boston is an amazing academic institution with faculty possessing diverse interests covering all aspects of child neurology in both acute and outpatient settings. I'm confident that the opportunity to work in this environment will help clarify those future goals.
