The mainstay of the MR Division's facilities include two EchoSpeed and one twin speed 1.5 Tesla GE Units that were recently upgraded to operate on the EXCITE platform. The EXCITE system and phased array imaging coils provide images of exceptional quality with shorter pulse sequences so that images can be obtained faster than ever before. Facilities also include a 1 Tesla ONI extremity unit, typically used in cases involving the ankles and knees.
In addition, as part of Children's Hospital's clinical building expansion, the Cardiology Department has acquired a 1.5 Tesla Phillips unit that is primarily dedicated to cardiac imaging. The new, expanded surgical operating facility includes an MR operating room that houses a state-of-the-art mobile Siemens 1.5 Tesla Symphony unit adapted by IMRIS for use in the OR. This unit provides intraoperative MR guidance for certain neurosurgical cases, such as the resection of small tumors.
