We have five MR units in Boston and Waltham for scanning babies, children, and teens, along with adults who have congenital conditions or sports injuries. An additional unit is located in the neurosurgical operating room for intraoperative imaging.
MR units at the hospital in Boston:
- A Siemens 3-Tesla (3T) TIM TRIO
- A GE 1.5T Twin Speed with the latest software
- A GE 1.5T LX Excite
- A ceiling mounted, retractable Siemens 1.5-Tesla Symphony (MR/OR) operating
room unit for neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery
MRs at the Waltham satellite clinic:
- A 1.5T Siemens Avanto
- A 3T Siemens TIM TRIO (used mainly for research)
- An MR simulator that helps children participating in research studies adjust to the MR unit before undergoing a real scan; this unit is also used when possible to see if 5- to 7-year-old patients will be able to stay motionless for an exam without being sedated
Video goggles/music headphones
We provide special video goggles for patients who would like to watch a movie while undergoing their MR scan. Prefer to listen to music? Bring your own iPod®.
