Interventional Radiology

Focus on safety

Most interventional radiology procedures rely on X-ray technology, which exposes patients to ionizing radiation. Because children are more sensitive to radiation than adults, we have adapted our equipment and protocols to keep radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable (the ALARA standard). We have been leaders in adjusting equipment and procedures to deliver the lowest possible dose to young patients.

Two of our faculty were founding members of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging (Image Gently).
