Division of Diagnostic Radiology
Image The Division of Diagnostic Radiology at Children's Hospital Boston provides plain radiography (X-rays) and fluoroscopy. These diagnostic tests enable our pediatric radiologists to accurately assess and diagnose illnesses or injuries that affect the abdomen, chest, extremities, gastrointestinal tract, skull,
spine and urinary tracts.

The division is responsible for the bulk of diagnostic exams performed at Children's. More than 102,000 X-ray and fluoroscopy exams are performed here annually, making it one of the largest general diagnostic radiology centers for the pediatric population in the country.

Our medical team strives to keep the dose from X-rays as low as reasonably achievable without compromising the information that is needed to make the correct diagnosis.

We have the ability to say with certainty that we provide the lowest X-ray dose possible due to our:

  • years of experience working with children
  • well thought-out disease-specific protocols
  • ability to review images in real time
  • constant research into better ways of performing the exams
  • review by in-house physicists of doses for examinations
  • equipment that is specifically designed to minimize X-ray dose to children.
