Injury is the number one cause of death and disability among children in the United States. Fortunately, however, most childhood injuries are preventable.
The Injury Prevention Program at Children's Hospital Boston is committed to decreasing the incidence of injuries through community-based education efforts, distributing safety materials and conducting research into what works best.
Projects include:
- Distributing automobile child passenger safety seats and bicycle helmets to families in need. Find out more.
- Carrying out groundbreaking work in bringing the injury prevention message directly into homes in low-income communities in the Boston area. We are a site for the Injury Free Coalition for Kids. As part of this Coalition we have implemented the "Safer Homes" program, a home safety initiative that teaches about safety in the home through home visitors.
- Working with community leaders to adapt injury prevention programs to the specific needs of their community.
- Overseeing education efforts for healthcare providers in the prevention and treatment of injuries.
