The clinics form the core of the Motility Center. They meet two to three times per week, and evaluate children referred with motility and functional bowel disorders. The clinic is staffed by pediatric gastroenterologists that are motility specialists, a nurse practitioner and a nurse.
Most patients seen have complex illnesses, and many are referred by other pediatric gastroenterologists for evaluation and treatment. Medical records are usually reviewed in advance, so an evaluation plan can be formulated in advance. This may involve radiologic, endoscopic, specialized motility testing or other procedures. Usually, the clinic visit can be coordinated with the necessary evaluations and testing that may be needed. Therefore, the evaluation at the Center may include a stay for a few days. This is very important for families that travel from far away for evaluation.
