Who we are
The Center for Motility and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders at Children's Hospital Boston treats children with motility and functional bowel disorders. Our programs include Children's Motility Clinics, the Center for Continence of Urine and Bowel and the Center for Aero-Digestive Disorders.
Our expertise
Research to improve our treatments is a large component of the work within the Center for Motility and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders. Ongoing studies include therapeutic trials for:
- the treatment of different gastrointestinal diseases, including constipation, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and abdominal pain
- a trial of botulinum toxin for short segment Hirschsprung's disease
- the role of non-acid reflux in patients with GERD
- the study of esophageal function
Conditions & Treatments
Our Services
We provide consultative services for referring pediatricians and pediatric gastroenterologists. Services include:
- Consultation, in-patient and out-patient
- Diagnosis, using clinical, radiographic, nuclear medicine, and gastrointestinal motility studies.
- Comprehensive therapeutic plans, which may include medications, nutrition, behavior modification, surgery, endoscopic or experimental therapy
- Access to investigational drug therapy in clinical trials
- Coordination of care plans with primary care and other specialty physicians
- Long-term follow-up care
- Access to hospital and community resources
- Assistance with insurance coverage and other matters relating to receiving care
