Flower FAQs
Is Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR) contagious?
No

Can VUR be prevented?
No, but most infections that result from it can be prevented.

Is VUR inherited?
Yes, which is why it is highly recommended that siblings be tested for it, as well as childbearing-age adults.

Is surgery mandatory?
Most of the time, surgery is not mandatory. The majority of cases do not require surgery.

What type of follow-up is needed for children with VUR?
With proper medication, VUR usually does not come back. Follow-up is needed, however, to monitor blood pressure, due to possible scarring in the kidney.
