Salaries (2009-2010)

Year 1 - $56,238
Year 2 - $58,710
Year 3 - $66,000

In addition, upper year fellows who wish can supplement their salaries since some weekday, in-house stem cell transplant call is covered by moonlighters ($100/hour or $1000/shift).

Salary support: The fellow's salary is supported by clinical funds during the clinical year of training. Two training grants (13-14 slots) are available to support fellows during their research years. Fellows can receive up to three years of support from the training grants, but many choose to apply for other fellowships, especially "K-awards" (K08, K23, etc), after one or two years of research because of the higher stipend ($75,000 per year) they offer.

We are pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2008, we will be instituting a new initiative to provide fellows with an annual allowance to help offset professional expenses, such as licensure fees, PALS/BLS certification books. The allowance schedule effective July 1, 2008, is as follows:
Fellowship Year Amount Allowance based upon
First Year Fellows $2,000 MA Medical License, MA Controlled Substance Certificate, DEA Certificate, City of Boston Registration, PALS/BLS Certification, Book Expense
Second Year Fellows $500 Book Expense
Third Year Fellows $1,200 MA Medical License renewal, PALS/BLS Certification, Book Expense
You should expect to receive your allowance along with your July 2008 paycheck. We recognize that your certifications, licenses, etc. may not fall exactly in the year of the given allowance as listed above (some of you may need PALS in the second year, for example), but you should budget accordingly to your schedule of the three year period.
Fellows are eligible for additional benefits, which are mostly available at reduced rates:
  • Additional group life insurance
  • Supplemental spousal and dependent life insurance
  • Short-term disability insurance
  • MBTA (mass transit) pass program (reduced rate)
  • Weekday parking (reduced rate)
  • Automobile, home, renters and boat insurance (reduced rates)
  • Children's day care - two sites (there is usually a waiting list)
  • Emergency back-up day care
