Clinical Services (Cancer):
Family-Centered Care
Our caregivers understand that a cancer diagnosis affects an entire family, and that it affects each family in different ways.

From your very first visit, you'll find a team commitment to supporting all of your family's physical and psychosocial needs. To provide continuity throughout care, your child will be assigned a primary team of health care professionals led by a pediatric oncologist (cancer specialist), who is a senior staff physician. Other team members you will regularly see include a pediatric oncology fellow (a physician) or a nurse practitioner, an inpatient nurse, an outpatient nurse and a psychosocial clinician.

In addition, clinic facilitators, a resource specialist, child-life specialists and other knowledgeable staff are available to help your family handle any practical concerns you may encounter, from finding housing to getting support about financial matters.

Our recently renovated facilities are also patient and family-centered.

If your child stays overnight on one of Children's dedicated units, the room will have bedside accommodations for one parent. Each unit also has family support space and a child activity room.

Dana-Farber's Jimmy Fund Clinic is also built with your entire family in mind. The reception area provides separate waiting areas for young children and teens. Inside the clinic, private consultation rooms provide comfortable waiting areas during initial visits and second opinions.
