The first thing parents should do is remain positive. Cure rates for most pediatric cancers have been steadily improving; our most common diagnosis, acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), now has a more than 80 percent cure rate.
Our combined Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Children's Hospital Boston staff will help you through this challenging experience, making every step as easy as possible for your child and your family. We are available at any time to answer your questions, offer guidance or provide comfort.
Make an appointment
If your child has been diagnosed with cancer, the first step is to schedule an appointment with us by calling 1-888-PEDI-ONC, if you don't already have one. Our New Patient Coordinator is available between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m, Monday - Friday, and they will return your call within 24 business hours. If you are calling outside of these hours with an immediate concern, contact or visit the Children's Department of Emergency Medicine by calling 617-355-6637.
If your child has been treated for cancer at a different institution and now will be coming to Dana Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Care (DF/CHCC) for a stem cell transplant, call the Transplant New Patient Coordinator at 617-632-3961 to schedule your appointment.
Get more information
The next step you may want to take is to learn more about your child's condition, possible treatments, our expert care team and the comprehensive services we provide through DF/CHCC.
