At Children's Hospital Boston, the Hematology team delivers comprehensive care to meet the medical, physical, emotional and informational needs of our patients and their families.
Our staff includes registered nurses, hematologists, immunologists, pathologists, social workers, clinical dietitians and others, who work together to outline care plans for each of our patients.
We believe that family is the most important source of emotional support and comfort for children, and we acknowledge family members as a vital component of each child's health care team. Families are especially important in the long-term health management plans of children with blood disorders. To help parents and famillies care for patients at home, we provide teaching materials describing preventative measures as well as early indicators of complications.
In rare cases when children with blood disorders require an overnight hospital stay, we encourage parents to stay with their child on the inpatient unit.
