Meet our team

At the Thrombosis Program and Anticoagulation Service, our staff of compassionate and experienced pediatric specialists includes hematologists, a pediatric nurse practitioner and a designated anticoagulation nurse. Our clinicians are focused on family-centered care: From your first visit, you’ll work with a team of professionals who are committed to supporting all of your family’s physical and psychosocial needs.

  • Kathy Harney, PNP
    Dr. Harney is a pediatric nurse practitioner at Children’s Hospital Boston. In addition to working with patients in the Thrombosis Program and Anticoagulation Service, she also sees patients in the Cerebrovascular Disorders and Stroke Program.
  • Alan D. Michelson, MD
    Dr. Michelson is a hematologist at Children’s and an expert in platelet disorders, bleeding disorders and clotting disorders. He is the director of the Thrombosis Program and Anticoagulation Service and also director of the Center for Platelet Research Studies. He is the author of Platelets, a comprehensive textbook on platelets.
  • Ellis Neufeld, MD, PhD
    Dr. Neufeld is an experienced pediatric hematologist and an associate chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. He’s also the director of the Thalassemia Program and a professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He has expertise in the treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders including ITP, hemophilia and thrombosis.
  • Kapil Saxena, MD, MS
    Dr. Saxena is a pediatric hematologist who specializes in the treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders including hemophilia, ITP and thrombosis. His research focuses on improving the treatment of hemophilia and other non-malignant blood disorders. He is also an instructor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.
  • Cameron C. Trenor, III, MD
    Dr. Trenor is a pediatric hematologist who specializes in the treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders, vascular anomalies and stroke in children. He is co-director of the Cerebrovasular Disorders and Stroke Program and an instructor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.
  • Juliann McSweeney, RN, AD
    Dr. McSweeney is the Thrombosis Program and Anticoagulation Service’s designed anticoagulation nurse.
